Some younger customers here at CarLease UK do ask – is it possible to have a guarantor when leasing a vehicle or can my parents lease a car for me?
Answering the above question about guarantor leasing very much depends on the customers individual circumstances.
If a young person does not have sufficient credit (or income) to proceed with a vehicle, some finance companies will either allow a “joint-application” or for the parents to undertake the agreement for them, as long as certain conditions are met.
What is a Joint Leasing Application?
With a joint application, the parent and child are jointly undertaking a credit search for a vehicle. This is available in limited instances where the child is under 25 years old (in some cased 21), lives at the same address as the joint applicant and does not have poor or bad credit. By doing this type of agreement, both parties are jointly undertaking the obligations of the lease.
When is a Lease Deal not an Accommodation deal?
In the other example, a child age 21 (or under) and who lives at the same address as the parent (or guardian) may have the ability to allow their parent/guardian to undertake the agreement on their behalf and for this not to be considered as an “accommodation” deal. This is useful for a younger person who is still living at home and has not procured any credit to date and so would have no chance at being accepted on their own or with their parent in a joint application situation.
For instances where a child no longer lives at the same address or where they are older than 21, this may be considered an accommodation deal and this is prohibited. Unfortunately, many finance companies will be unable to assist.
Both of the above forms of leasing require customers to speak in advance with one of our friendly and helpful team members.
Please Note; Not all finance companies will accept this form of leasing customer and so the deals and vehicles which are available on our website may be limited.
